May Expo Offers CPE Galore

Submitted by Cara Patterson on Wed, 04/22/2009 - 17:04
  • NYSSCPA News

What’s on your calendar for May 12 and 13? If you’re not yet planning to power through half of your CPE requirements for the year in two days, maybe you should.

You can earn up to 14 CPE credits in a two-day period at the 2009 Accounting and Business Expo, and the CPE is affordable. This year’s expo is taking place at two new locations: the Long Island Marriott in Uniondale on May 12 and 13 (101 James Doolittle Boulevard, Uniondale, NY 11553). A second expo will take place upstate in October at the Turning Stone Hotel and Casino in Verona, which is located between Syracuse and Utica.

There are three options for CPE on May 12 and 13: attend day one for $165 (8 hours CPE); attend day two for $115 (6 hours CPE); or attend both days to get 14 CPE hours for only $225 (a $55 savings).

Sixteen 100 minute sessions will cover such topics as How the Internet is Changing the Accounting Profession, Security and Maintenance of Networks and Personal Computers, Hedge Funds and Private Investment Partnerships: Strategy, Tactics and the Fallacy of Trust, The New Form 990 and Not-for-Profit Accounting Update and Human Resources in a Changing Economy. Check out the new topics in the abbreviated schedule below, or click here for the full details.

Exhibitors will showcase the latest in accounting and tax software, payroll and HR products, document management systems, office products, security software, business consulting services and more. Check out the current directory of exhibitors.

You can register for the expo at www.nycpashow.com, by clicking the links below or calling 1-800-537-3635. The first 500 registrants are eligible to win a Nintendo Wii. You’ll also receive free gifts for attending.

Image Matters
Carol Davidson will be offering tips to ensure your image enhances and does not detract from the way clients and colleagues perceive you at the new professional development lounge.

You never know when the media might call you for a quote about a local issue. Prepare by watching Jim Cameron’s presentation in the professional development lounge, "The Ten Biggest Mistakes Accountants Make in the Media." News anchor Jodi Applegate will speak about impacts of the economy on the broadcast media industry on May 12 during the luncheon address. Applegate has anchored at NBC Network and MSNBC.
