Chief Accountant to Speak at SEC Conference
What’s brewing at the SEC? Why not hear it straight from the source. James Kroeker, who has just been appointed chief accountant at the SEC, will be speaking at the SEC Conference on Sept. 17.
As chief accountant, treatment for loan loss reserves and off-balance sheet items likely top Kroeker’s immediate agenda, CFO.com reported. Kroeker will provide an overview of initiatives and developments of the chief accountant’s office during his session from 8:50 to 9:50 a.m. at the conference, which will be held at the Helmsley Hotel. The timetable for convergence to International Financial Reporting Standards has been another hot button topic at the SEC. CFO Magazine reported that Kroeker has not publically shared an opinion on it, but another source told the magazine that the timetable is likely to be relaxed as the agency focuses on the financial crisis.
Other public officials scheduled to speak include Martin Baumann, chief auditor for the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board, and Steven Jacobs, associate chief accountant of the division of corporation finance at the SEC. Both officials will provide updates on the activities of their offices.
