Annual Leadership Conference Focuses on Member Service, Advocacy
NYSSCPA leaders and members who attended the three-day annual Leadership Conference in Verona, N.Y., came together to discuss ways to improve the NYSSCPA’s service to different segments of its membership and advocate for the important issues facing the profession.
A number of new task forces were introduced by NYSSCPA President Margaret A. Wood and approved by the NYSSCPA’s Board of Directors at its meeting July 13, and the leadership discussed a number of new initiatives focused on increasing membership and member participation.
Society leaders who attend the conference include committee chairs, chapter presidents, young CPA committee chairs, FAE trustees, political action committee members, board members and past presidents.
Breakout sessions divvied up attendees into smaller focus groups that explored a number of areas essential to moving the NYSSCPA and its membership forward. In one group, members worked through the meaning of advocacy and the Society’s role in it, and discussed ways to get members to both understand the breadth of the organization’s work in this area and become more involved. Another group focused on the needs of members serving in industry, academia and government. A third group, comprised primarily of young CPAs, was devoted to discussing the needs of those CPAs just entering the profession and ways to get this new generation of accountants involved in its State Society.
Stay tuned! In-depth coverage of the 10th Annual Leadership Conference will be available in upcoming issues of The Trusted Professional and the NYSSCPA E-zine.
