Despite Economy, Accounting Jobs Remain Strong
Although many once-stalwart industries are feeling the pinch from the current economic crisis, several sectors, including accounting, are not only remaining strong but are actually growing in these harsh financial times, according to the Wall Street Journal. Data from job search website Monster.com shows that the number of companies seeking qualified accounting personnel increased by 12 percent over the last 120 days.
The Journal posits that this could be due to the fact that employment in other professions is growing -- as businesses expand, there could be an increased demand for financial services such as those provided by accountants. This could be a particular boon for private company accountants, as the strongest growth seems to be in the industrial sector: Hiring among industrial engineers is up 28 percent; hiring among first-line supervisors/managers of mechanics, installers and repairers is up 25 percent; hiring among specialist automotive mechanics grew by 24 percent; and hiring among mechanical engineers increased by 21 percent.
