Annual Accounting Educators’ Conference: Nov. 12–13

The NYSSCPA’s Higher Education Committee will sponsor an Accounting Educators’ Conference in November at the Society’s new FAE Conference Center in Manhattan.

After a long absence, the Educator’s Conference reemerged last year, with about 60 individuals attending the event, held in Oswego. This year’s program will build on many of the topics covered last year, with planned speakers to include Bill Gradison, a member of the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board, who will discuss the role of the board and its implications for accounting education.

Joseph T. Wells, founder and chairman of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, will give a presentation on fraud detection and deterrence. NYSSCPA board member Philip Wolitzer, a professor of accounting, will lead a session on ethics. The committee anticipates having a speaker from the American Institute of CPAs who is expected to discuss the new CPA exam format, which is now in its third two-month cycle.

More details will be forthcoming, via mailings to educator members of the Society and through posting on the Society website. Anyone with an interest in accounting education is welcome to attend.

The conference will extend from Friday morning, Nov. 12, through Saturday noon, Nov. 13. John Wiley & Sons, a major textbook publisher, will cosponsor the event.

The conference fee of $99 for members and nonmembers includes CPE credit (total hours have yet to be determined), all event materials, continental breakfast for Friday and Saturday mornings, and lunch on Friday. A special wine/cheese reception, sponsored by John Wiley & Sons, will be held on Friday immediately following the program.

The new Society offices and FAE Conference Center are located at 3 Park Ave., at 34th Street, on the 19th floor.
