Program to Cover Fraud Protection

By Suzanne Jensen, Northeast Chapter Member

Fraud can potentially affect any publicly traded, privately owned or not-for-profit organization.

NYSSCPA Executive Director Lou Grumet will be the featured speaker at “Protecting Your Organization from Fraud,” a program hosted by the Northeast Chapter’s Not-For-Profit Committee and the Empire State Society of Association Executives (ESSAE). The program will take place on Thurs., March 17, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Holiday Inn Turf on Wolf Road in Colonie, N.Y.

The program is designed and tailored toward senior management in not-for-profit (NFP) organizations, CPAs in NFPs or on nonprofit boards, association management and CPA firms offering NFP and fraud services. Topics include the role of an NFP’s executive team in the selection of a qualified CPA firm and the CPA firm’s role in communicating fraud detection and prevention audit procedures; the responsibilities of the CPA firm, the NFP management team and the governance board when fraud is detected; and the potential legislation on the state and federal levels that affect NFPs. A special segment will be dedicated to creating a fraud prevention culture throughout an NFP organization.
