Community Affairs Committee Helps Not-for-ProfitsThe NYSSCPA Community Affairs Committee held its fifth annual "How to Get Up and Running: Accounting and Tax Issues for Not-for-Profits" workshop on December 9 at the Society's office. The event featured specialists in accounting, tax, and computers who offered advice to help nonprofit organizations get established and operate efficiently. "This interactive and informative evening allowed experts a chance to provide free guidance to nonprofits," committee Chair Paul Piccone said. "The event also helped positively position CPAs and the profession as a helpful resource." Commmittee member Gil Bernhard chaired the event. Approximately 35 individuals from numerous not-for-profit organizations in the metropolitan New York City area attended. Speakers included Neil A. Latman, who offered advice on accounting software systems; Ginger Broderick, who explained how to read three-year financial projections; and Alan Woghin, who discussed how apply for tax exempt status and New York state tax filing requirements.
