NEW YORK – (April 17, 2015) - Sheila S. Coronel, academic dean at the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism and a co-author of the school’s recent investigative report on Rolling Stone's since-retracted story, "A Rape on Campus," will be the guest speaker at the 2015 Excellence in Financial Journalism Awards luncheon May 1. Tickets are $35 and are available here.
Coronel’s presentation, “Restoring Trust in Reporting,” will focus on some of the key editorial failures in the magazine’s since-retracted story about a female University of Virginia student’s allegations of a gang rape on campus. The truth of the story created a national controversy.
Coronel is concurrently also director of Columbia Journalism School’s Toni Stabile Center for Investigative Journalism and Stabile professor of professional practice. She began her reporting career in the Philippines and was cofounder of the Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism. She is the author and editor of more than a dozen books.
The luncheon will be held Friday, May 1 from 11:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the Tribeca Grill, 375 Greenwich St. in New York.
