Maya Lindsay
Published Date:
Nov 20, 2018

WHO: The New York State Society of CPAs’ (NYSSCPA) Cannabis Industry Committee is proud to present its first Cannabis Conference, which will offer exclusive insight into the ever-growing billion-dollar cannabis industry.

Conference speakers include —

  • Matt Karnes, Founder, Managing Partner, Greenwave Advisors LLC
  • Derek Abdekalimi, CPA, Founder, Cannaledger
  • Mitzi Hollenbeck, CPA, Practice Leader of Cannabis Advisory Services Group, Citrin Cooperman LLP
  • Daniel McKillop, Chair, Cannabis Law Practice Group, Scarinci Hollenbeck LLC
  • Pasquale Rafanelli, Valuation Senior Manager,  Grassi & Company

WHAT: To date, 33 states have legalized marijuana for medical and/or recreational use. Here in New York state, the Compassionate Care Act was passed in 2014, allowing the use of medical marijuana. As the marijuana industry continues to grow rapidly, as well as generate jobs and profits, CPAs, lawyers, bankers, real estate professionals and investors are eager to provide their services to businesses that cater to the ever-growing medical marijuana industry.

During the conference, attendees will learn about the opportunities in the cannabis industry, such as how blockchain technology and cryptocurrency can help alleviate the regulatory issues that the legal cannabis industry is facing. This event will also provide insight to investors about the best practices for investing in cannabis, as well as the practical issues that professionals are facing when it comes to operating legally and in compliance within the industry.

“This is a really great opportunity for a CPA, an attorney or finance professional to brush up on what they need to know to better serve their clients and turn potential obstacles into opportunities,” said CPA, Zachary Gordon, the NYSSCPA’s Cannabis Industry Committee and Cannabis Conference chair, and managing member at CH3 Ventures LLC.

WHEN/WHERE: Convene, 730 Third Ave. (between 45th and 46th Streets), New York, NY 10017

WHY: The 2018 Cannabis Conference is a prime opportunity to learn from experts in the field, build connections across sectors and hear from legislators in the know about what to expect as legislation evolves and as the industry continues to grow. Cannabis is in a growth phase in New York state, with unparalleled revenue potential requiring financial experts who are able to navigate this emerging market successfully.
