New York State CPA Society Hosts Tax Notes’ Lee Sheppard on Jan. 20, Announces Dates for Nonprofit Accounting Conferences

WHAT

The New York State Society of CPA's (NYSSCPA) Foundation for Accounting Education (FAE) announces three special guests for three upcoming conferences in January 2016, which are: The 38th Annual Nonprofit Conference; the Partnership Taxation Conference; and the Taxation of Financial Instruments and Transactions Conference.

 WHO:

  • Richard A. Cole, supervising project manager at the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB), will headline the 38th Annual Nonprofit Conference, providing a status update of the exposure draft related to financial statements of not-for-profit entities. Attendees will also be able to learn about the upcoming agenda of the New York State Charities Bureau, from the Bureau’s NYC Chief, James G. Sheehan.
  • Andrea Macintosh Whiteway, partner at McDermott Will & Emery LLP, will lead the Partnership Taxation Conference and discuss the tax implications of contributing a Section 704(c) property to a partnership. Section 704(c) regulations will come with many tax issues and Whiteway’s session will cover these issues while identifying some of its tax traps for the unwary.

  • Sheppard, JD., will keynote the NYSSCPA’s Taxation of Financial Instruments and Transactions Conference, where she’ll break down how funds are being impacted due to state and local tax law changes. During this conference, attendees will also gain knowledge about the effects of certain transaction documents such as management fee waivers and basket swap notices.
