NEW YORK – (September, 22, 2015) – After four years on the job, Jason Helgerson, New York State’s Medicaid chief, surely has a lot to say about the challenges he’s faced organizing the Empire State’s Medicare reform effort.
The 43-year-old self-described policy wonk will be the keynote speaker at the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants’ 2015 Health Care Conference, Thursday, September 24 from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., at the Society’s 14 Wall Street office.
Helgerson is expected to share insights of the state’s new Delivery System Reform Incentive Program (DSRIP), a key feature of the reform effort to lower New York’s $53 billion in spending - the second most of any state in the country - while also holding healthcare providers more responsible for improved service.
The conference will feature other industry experts who will also discuss health care reform and how new developments in managed-care delivery, funding, and data analysis can help accounting professionals who work in the health care industry.
Some of those speakers include:
- Alexander Buchholz, CPA, MBA, audit manager at O’Connor Davies, LLP; who will explain new and proposed accounting and auditing standards – such as the proposed lease accounting standards and new revisions to the Committee of Sponsoring Organizations of the Treadway Commission (COSO) framework – to attendees.
- Andrea Hagen, director of Bonadio Receivable Solutions at The Bonadio Group; who will provide insight on the new ICD-10 code, as it is set to transition on October 1 from the current ICD-9 version. This session will offer a basic ICD-10 foundation while helping professionals recognize potential implementation problems and solutions. (The International Classification of Diseases, 10th Revision, (ICD-10) is a revision of the ICD-9 system which physicians and other providers currently use to code all diagnoses, symptoms, and procedures recorded in hospitals and physician practices.)
