PRESS RELEASE

The Moynihan Scholarship Fund’s Career Opportunities in the Accounting Profession

New York (JUNE 17, 2020) - The Moynihan Scholarship Fund (MSF) sponsors the Career Opportunities in the Accounting Profession (COAP) program, in collaboration with the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants (NYSSCPA).

The MSF also provides direct scholarships, in addition to its ongoing sponsorship of the Career Opportunities in the Accounting Profession (COAP) program. COAP is a three-decade–old program, pioneered by CPAs reaching out to high school students throughout the state of New York. It introduces promising underrepresented high school juniors to accounting and business careers. The program does this by featuring successful role models and professionals in corporations, accounting firms, nonprofit organizations and government agencies, as well as providing an introduction to college life.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 COAP program will be virtual. This year’s participating universities will host the virtual program on Monday, June 29 through Tuesday, June 30. The participating institutions for the 2020-2021 program are Medgar Evers College, the Rochester Institute of Technology, Siena College, St. John’s University, and SUNY Oswego. During the virtual course, sessions may include an accounting profession overview, basic accounting concepts, career resources, interviewing skills, networking, college financial and admissions prep, and résumé writing. The MSF is also working with nationally prominent consultants Robert Half Finance & Accounting (Robert Half). Robert Half is participating in the initiative this year by providing sessions on résumé writing and interviewing skills.

The MSF relies on donations in order to serve its mission of exposing, educating and developing students in New York with regard to accounting and business professions. To make a donation, please click here.
