According to the Journal of Accountancy, the AICPA’s Auditing Standards Board (ASB) has released a consultation paper outlining its proposed 2026-2030 strategic plan and is seeking public feedback by June 13.
The plan centers around five key initiatives aimed at ensuring auditing standards remain high-quality, adaptable and aligned with evolving stakeholder needs.
These initiatives include: developing standards in the public interest, improving stakeholder communication, strategic thinking, maintaining relevance in a changing environment and supporting effective implementation.
The ASB notes its ongoing efforts to align with international standards, address emerging topics like sustainability assurance and harness technology to enhance audit quality.
ASB Chair Sara Lord and AICPA Chief Auditor Jennifer Burns emphasized the importance of monitoring feedback and maintaining standards that are scalable and consistently applied. The ASB’s strategic efforts have already led to advancements such as new quality management standards and tech-driven audit resources.
The consultation paper aims to shape the ASB’s work in a dynamic auditing environment, ensuring standards meet the needs of both practitioners and the public over the next five years.
