See below for answers to frequently asked questions regarding online learning.
What kind of Internet connection do I need? ⓘ
What are the browser requirements? ⓘ
FAE recommends Google Chrome for the best experience. While Firefox, Safari, and Microsoft Edge may also work, our learning platform is optimized for Chrome.
To ensure successful attendance tracking and CPE compliance monitoring, learners should allow pop ups and disable pop up blockers for the duration of the program. Attendance checks may not appear correctly if browser settings prevent pop ups from displaying.
Why must I log in to my NYCPA account to attend an FAE program and receive CPE credit? ⓘ
All learners, including NYCPA members and nonmembers, must be logged into their NYCPA account when attending an FAE program.
To access an online program, log in to your NYCPA account and navigate to My Profile > My Learning > Upcoming CPE & Events.
Attendance monitoring and participation verification are linked to an individual learner's account profile. Logging in allows FAE to verify who is attending, deliver attendance checks to the correct learner, track participation, and document compliance with NASBA and New York State Education Department requirements.
Learner activity is tracked individually through each NYCPA account. Learners must be logged into their own account to access the program, respond to attendance checks, verify participation, and receive CPE credit.
What are the hardware requirements? ⓘ
A computer, tablet, or mobile device capable of streaming online video content should be sufficient to participate in FAE online programs.
Because FAE programming includes attendance monitoring and compliance verification required for CPE credit, learners should ensure they have a reliable internet connection and are able to view and respond to attendance checks that appear during the program.
How do I prove my attendance and receive credit for a live online program? ⓘ
LIVE ONLINE PROGRAM CPE POLICY
Each learner attending a live online FAE program must be logged in through their NYCPA account.
Throughout the program, attendance checks will appear on screen asking learners to confirm they are actively participating. These attendance checks display the message:
"Please Confirm Your Attendance"
Learners must select:
"Yes, I Am Watching"
To receive CPE credit, learners must:
Attendance monitoring requirements are established to comply with NASBA and NYSED standards for live online continuing professional education.
In accordance with sponsor requirements, FAE cannot award CPE credit to learners who do not satisfy these attendance and participation requirements.
How do I prove my attendance and receive credit for a self study program? ⓘ
FAE self study programs currently offer New York State Education Department (NYSED) CPE credit only.
Throughout the program, attendance checks will appear to verify participation and engagement. These attendance checks serve as FAE's method of documenting attendance and participation in accordance with NYSED requirements for self study CPE programs.
To receive CPE credit, learners must successfully respond to the required attendance checks presented during the self study program.
Certain self study programs may also include knowledge check questions or quizzes to reinforce learning and assess comprehension. These activities are educational in nature and may not be required for CPE credit unless specifically stated within the course.
What has changed with participation tracking for FAE programming broadcasts, and how do I receive CPE credit? ⓘ
What has changed with participation tracking for FAE programming broadcasts, and how do I receive CPE credit?
All learners must be logged into their NYCPA account to access an FAE online program. Attendance and participation are tracked through the learner's individual account profile.
Participation is tracked through on screen attendance checks that appear periodically throughout the program. These attendance checks are required to comply with NASBA and New York State Education Department continuing professional education standards.
To receive full CPE credit, learners must:
Attendance checks help verify active participation and ensure FAE remains compliant with sponsor requirements governing continuing professional education.
Learners who do not satisfy the attendance and participation requirements may not be eligible to receive full CPE credit.
I am not seeing the attendance checks (pop ups) during a live online or self study program. What should I do? ⓘ
I am not seeing the attendance checks (pop ups) during a live online or self study program. What should I do?
Attendance checks are required to verify participation and award CPE credit. If you are not seeing attendance checks during a program, please try the following:
If attendance checks still do not appear, please contact NYCPA Member Services as soon as possible at 800-537-3635 or memberservices@nysscpa.org so we can assist you before the program concludes.
Because attendance checks are used to verify participation for CPE purposes, learners are encouraged to immediately report any issues during the program rather than waiting until after the program has ended.
When I view a webcast, what makes the sound and video skip, cut out, or buffer? ⓘ
If refreshing your browser does not work, you may be experiencing one of the following issues:
Slow connection: You may not have a fast enough Internet connection to reliably view the webcast online. Your Internet connection should have download speeds of at least 5Mbps. FAE recommends an Internet connection capable of at least 10Mbps.
Slow network: Internet congestion can slow down the delivery of the stream and make it difficult for you to connect or may cause buffering. If you repeatedly have difficulty connecting, please notify your in-house IT department; if you are at home, contact your Internet service provider͢--there are often quick fixes they can make when they learn about your issue.
Slow computer: If your computer is old, it might be too slow to play the stream, regardless of what else it’s doing. Or, if you have lots of other programs open, they may be using too much processor time and/or RAM for the player to work properly. Try closing other nonvital programs, refreshing your page (see above), and viewing the webcast again.
Local congestion: Local bandwidth (on your computer or local network) is shared between all open applications and the player. Closing applications may reduce buffering.
No sound will play: Visit YouTube.com another video site and make sure that videos play sound. If you hear sound on YouTube, make sure your seminar’s video player isn’t muted. If you don’t hear any sound, check your player volume, system volume, and speaker volume, and ensure that they are all turned on and turned up.
Corporate firewalls/bandwidth: Most corporate networks have firewalls that will allow live webcasting, but older firewalls and high-security buildings may have a block. If this is the case, the only way you can watch the webcast is to ask your IT department to adjust their firewall and bandwidth so that it allows the webcast.
Help! My webcast is completely gone and will not come back no matter what I try! ⓘ
Will I lose credit for not being able to watch while the stream is down? ⓘ
Will I be able to see what I missed? ⓘ
What is the difference between a polling question and an attendance check? ⓘ
Polling questions and attendance checks serve different purposes during a FAE program.
Polling Questions
Polling questions are educational and interactive tools used by speakers and moderators to engage learners, gather feedback, measure understanding, or facilitate discussion. Participation in polling questions is optional and is not used to determine CPE eligibility or attendance verification.
For example, a polling question may ask:
"Which of the following risks do you believe is most significant in this scenario?"
Whether you respond to a polling question has no impact on your ability to receive a CPE certificate.
Attendance Checks
Attendance checks are required for CPE compliance and attendance verification purposes. Throughout a live online program, attendance checks will periodically appear on screen and display the message:
"Please Confirm Your Attendance"
Learners must select:
"Yes, I Am Watching"
To receive CPE credit, learners must:
Attendance monitoring requirements are established to comply with NASBA and New York State Education Department (NYSED) standards for live online continuing professional education.
In accordance with sponsor requirements, FAE cannot award CPE credit to learners who do not satisfy the attendance and participation requirements outlined above.
Can I view the live stream on a mobile device? ⓘ
You can view the webcast from a mobile device, such as a cell phone, iPad, laptop, or tablet. We recommend that you be somewhere where there is fast, reliable WiFi or a strong data connection in order to avoid any interruptions. Please be mindful that the Participation Codes show at the top of the screen, so remember to activate full-screen mode when viewing from a mobile device in order to avoid missing any when they show. If the Participation Codes are still being blocked by video information, tap into the webcast to remove that information and webcast player controls.
