The Expanded Auditors Report: A Dialogue

Jan C. Herringer is a partner in BDO’s National Assurance practice. She focuses on the auditing standards of the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB), American Institute of Certified Public Accountants’ (AICPA’s) Auditing Standards Board (ASB) and the International Auditing and Assurance Standards Board. She is responsible for ensuring firm compliance with all applicable auditing standards through the review, development, and updating of firm methodology and supporting forms and templates, as well as responding to questions from the field on audit-related matters. She is also responsible for drafting content for various auditing and accounting publications with internal and external distribution. Additionally, she actively participates in the standard-setting process as a board member of the AICPA Auditing Standards Board and through the development of comment letters on auditing and reporting matters. Prior to joining BDO, Jan was a technical manager in the Professional Ethics Division of the AICPA, where she performed investigations of alleged violations of the Code of Conduct of the AICPA. In this capacity, she presented cases before the Technical Standards Subcommittee and the Joint Trial Board Panel. Prior to her presidency, Herringer served as a member of the NYSSCPA Board of Directors and Executive Committee, as past chair of the Accounting and Auditing Oversight and Auditing Standards committees, and was a member of the Board’s Audit Committee in 2014. Throughout her 13 year membership, she served on multiple statewide and chapter committees. Herringer is a current member of the NYSSCPA Legislative Task Force. She also serves as a member of the governing council for the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA).

Charles has over 15 years of experience providing auditing and advisory services in the financial services industry. He currently serves as the Financial Services Practice Leader at Mazars USA. Charles is the Former Vice President of the New York State Society of CPA (NYSSCPA) and Former Chair of the NYSSCPA SEC Committee. Charles’ expertise includes providing accounting, auditing, and advisory services to a range of financial institutions, spanning banks, broker-dealers, domestic and offshore hedge funds, private equity funds, fund of funds, business development companies under the Investment Company Act of 1940, registered investment companies, SBICs, registered investment advisers, and specialty finance companies. His expertise encompasses audit and advisory services related to (a) the fair value of investment portfolios (under ASC Topic 820), (b) internal control over financial reporting (under COSO 2013), and (c) SEC filers. A member of the Mazars USA’s SEC Practice Group and the Accounting and Auditing Council, Charles leads education programs and contributes to various published articles. Charles graduated from New York University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting. He received a Master of Science degree in Finance from Hofstra University.
