The Internal Revenue Service Taxpayer Advocate Service (TAS) is an independent organization within the IRS that assists taxpayers experiencing significant hardships or unresolved issues with the IRS. This program will provide practitioners with an overview of the Taxpayer Advocate Service, explain when a case qualifies for TAS assistance, and discuss how to effectively utilize Form 911, Application for Taxpayer Advocate Service Assistance (And Application for Taxpayer Assistance Order). Participants will gain practical insights into working with their Local Taxpayer Advocate and learn strategies for advocating on behalf of clients facing IRS-related challenges. The session will include discussion of TAS case acceptance criteria, taxpayer rights considerations, and best practices for preparing a complete and effective Form 911 submission. The presentation will be led by Christopher R. Morell, Local Taxpayer Advocate for Long Island, New York, who has served with the IRS for 40 years and as a Local Taxpayer Advocate for 15 years.
