Most of us remember when the profession was an up or out business and there were plenty of candidates applying for accounting jobs. We remember when some of us would stick around for 10 or more years for partnership, leave for our own firms or welcome the chance to work hard and long hours for other opportunities. Then things changed and a new generation emerged. Today, new accountants (when they exist) want a better way of life that often does not include firm ownership or even CPA licensure. What can a retiring owner do now to develop a successor?
