Letter from the Chapter President

Dear Chapter Members,

I am looking forward to another successful year of networking and continuing education opportunities.  We started early this year, with a technical session on June 25, 2026 at The Wild Center in Tupper Lake.  This will be a great opportunity for learning valuable information on real estate tax issues. We will also have the opportunity to discuss chapter matters and tour the wonderful Wild Center.

Also on the calendar is the Annual Chapter Tax Conference on Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2026.  We hope to fill in with other opportunities to get together during the year.

I want to thank my Board for their valuable help in planning and organizing our events.  I am now in my third year as Chapter President.  Leonard Sauers is in his third year as Chapter Treasurer.  We will look for candidates to take up chapter leadership positions going
forward. This is critical for keeping the chapter vibrant and active for years to come.

Under the new NYCPA bylaws, we will not automatically have a Chapter Representative on the NYCPA Board. Our current Representative is Nick Eells.  His term ends in May 2027. We will need to take it upon ourselves to nominate a candidate for this position for the term starting in June 2027.  I will have discussions with our members between now and next January, when the slate of Board candidates must be submitted to the NYCPA Nominating Committee. As a small chapter, it will be important for us to remain active and make sure our voices are heard.

Please feel free to reach out to me to discuss chapter leadership and governance matters.

I know I can count on your support and participation.

Sincerely,
John Huttlinger
Chapter President

Adirondack Chapter Hosts Tech Session at The Wild Center

The Adirondack Chapter hosted a technical session titled Cost Segregations, Real Estate Professional Status, Short Term Rental & Updates from the OBBA. We were hosted by the Natural History Museum of the Adirondack (The Wild Center)  in Tupper Lake. The technical course presented by MSC Cost Segregation – Tax Credits and Incentives packed a lot of detailed and relevant information into our short two-plus hour session.

The presenters were excellent and knowledgeable of current legislation and accounting standards.  I would recommend them to other Chapters looking for guidance in this area.

After the session, we conducted a Chapter meeting to discuss succession planning, recent changes in the NYCPA By-Laws and other topics.

We appreciated the enthusiastic participation of the Chapter members in attendance and are glad to have had an opportunity for an in-person gathering.

About Adirondack

Spanning more than six million acres with over 100 welcoming communities, the Adirondack Region is home to the largest protected natural area in the lower 48 states. Like a patchwork quilt, the Adirondacks are made up of twelve distinct regional destinations, each offering their own brand of Adirondack adventure. From the endless canoeing and kayaking in the Saranac Lake and Tupper Lake regions, to the extensive hiking trails of the High Peaks Wilderness in the Lake Placid Region - discover an area as diverse in geography as it is in activities and events. Bicycle between wineries on the Adirondack Coast, or dive to sunken shipwrecks in the Adirondack Seaway near the Canadian Border. You're invited to explore the Lake George Region's family-friendly attractions and discover the Adirondack Tug Hill Plateau's one-of-a-kind recreation opportunities.

The Adirondack Region is one of the most diverse destinations on the East Coast, offering unparalleled outdoor recreation throughout its dazzling lakes, wild mountains, and charming towns and villages. Established in 1892 by the State of New York amid concerns for the water and timber resources of the region, the Adirondack Park today covers an area larger in size than Yosemite, Yellowstone, Glacier, Grand Canyon and the Great Smokies National Parks combined, and is the largest park in the lower 48 states.
