Are you interested in serving on the NYCPA’s Board of Directors?

By William H. Dresnack, Nominating Committee Chair

The NYCPA’s Nominating Committee is accepting nominations from members interested in serving in key leadership positions on the NYCPA Board of Directors. Terms begin June 1, 2027.

The deadline to submit a nomination is Friday, December 4, 2026.

Open positions for 2027–2028

  • President-Elect: One-year term, followed automatically by a one-year term as President and then a one-year term as Past President.
  • Five Vice Presidents: One-year terms.  The Nominating Committee selects the five Vice Presidents, and the President assigns roles: 2 for Chapters, 1 for Committees, 1 for Professional Issues, and 1 for Membership.
  • Secretary/Treasurer: Ordinarily serves two consecutive one-year terms.
  • Directors: One to four positions, depending on the number of candidates submitted and the board members continuing to serve from FY27 to FY28.

Changes to the Board under the new bylaws

The membership approved changes to the NYCPA Bylaws in May 2026 that will reduce the size of the Board of Directors over time from 34 to 19 members. The Nominating Committee will implement the updated board structure based on the candidates submitted for consideration and the board members whose terms continue into FY28. Please refer to Article VII of the NYCPA Bylaws for the updated requirements and structure.

Under the updated bylaws, the previous At-Large and Chapter Representative positions are now designated as Director positions.

Although there are no longer separate Chapter Representative positions, each chapter may still have representation on the Board, but it may be through either an Officer or Director position. For example, if an individual from Rochester puts in for a VP role and is selected by the Nominating Committee, representation from Rochester is covered in a VP position rather than a director role.

Based on the unexpired terms of board members as of June 1, 2027, the following chapters are not currently expected to have representation on the Board for FY28:

Members interested in having their Chapter President’s recommendation considered for one of the Officer or Director positions should contact the appropriate Chapter President directly.

How to submit a nomination

Members may nominate themselves or another NYCPA member. Before submitting another member’s name, please confirm that the individual is willing and able to serve.

For each nominee, please provide:

  • A biography or résumé; and
  • An email or letter explaining why the individual is interested in and qualified to serve on the Board of Directors.

Candidates for President-Elect should be prepared to participate in an interview with the Nominating Committee. The Committee may also request interviews for officers for other open positions.

Please email nominations and supporting materials to the NYCPA Nominating Committee at nominations@nysscpa.org by Friday, December 4, 2026.

The Nominating Committee will meet on Thursday, January 14, 2027, to deliberate and interview potential candidates.
