NYCPA Joins IRS Leadership for Tax Administration Discussion
Last week, Frank J. Bisignano, chief executive officer of the IRS, held a meeting with tax professionals in the New York area at the IRS Nationwide Tax Forum in New York City, among them Orumé Hays, the president-elect of the NYCPA, as the agency continues its efforts to engage with both practitioners and taxpayers.
The talk included a discussion of the Trump Accounts, advice concerning the Working Families Tax Cuts, the lessons learned from the 2026 filing season, and the measures being taken in preparation for the 2027 filing season. Bisignano stressed the part that practitioners play in assisting the agency with the administration of the tax system and in communicating with taxpayers.
As Bisignano pointed out, the input and feedback that the IRS obtains from tax professionals enhances the process of tax collection and administration. Tax professionals have a vital role in our tax system since they act as an important link between the IRS and the taxpaying public and assist them in understanding and fulfilling their tax obligations.
Hays pointed out the NYCPA's long-standing role in promoting communication between practitioners and the agency, particularly through the Society's Committee on Relations with the IRS.
“Through my years of participation on the NYCPA’s Relations with the IRS Committee, I have witnessed firsthand the benefits of this collaboration,” Hays said. “It has helped foster open communication, strengthen mutual understanding, and support our shared commitment to effective tax administration and quality service to taxpayers.”
The IRS stated that over 144 million income tax returns were processed during the 2026 filing season, with 98% of refunds being sent electronically. The average refund also rose by 11% compared with the previous year.
The IRS has stated that its senior officials will keep on meeting with taxpayers and tax professionals in order to obtain comments on further improvements to tax administration.
